Have you ever bumped into the royal Bengal tiger playing in the Jumeirah beach or just said hai to the cheetah in Sheik Zayed road traffic signal?
It is not a big deal in Dubai since the residents of this country keep exotic animals such as tiger, lion, alligator, etc. as pets. But why should you buy a pet from the pet’s habitat? Of course, the cubs of big cats look adorable. But in reality, keeping a wild animal as a pet often has catastrophic results- mostly for the animals, but sometimes for the owner too. Here is why wild animals can’t be pets in UAE
It is illegal in UAE.
It is against the law in UAE to keep the exotic animals as pets. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has announced the enforcement of federal law to stop individuals from owning, trading and breeding a variety of dangerous, wild and exotic animals.
It carries diseases.
When you give space to exotic animals in your home, you are inviting many diseases. There are wild animals like raccoons or skunks that can be carriers for rabies without showing any symptoms. Other diseases animals can transfer to humans (called zoonotic diseases) are raccoon roundworm and herpes B virus.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tens of thousands of people get salmonella infections each year from wild reptiles or amphibians. Remember you are not the only one who is exposed, the whole family including your kids are exposed to these kinds of deadly diseases.
They are WILD
Baby animals are appealing. As soon as they grow up ( they are so huge to keep as domestic pets), they will show their instincts. They will bite, scratch and do much worse things. Hope you might have heard the news of pet owners getting attacked and killed by their exotic pets. You won’t be able to love the wild part of your pet for sure.
The animal itself is harmed.
It is tyranny you are doing to these animals by domesticating them. If you are a true animal lover, you won’t do this to them. The wild animals should be kept free to survive in the wild.
As soon as you realize that taking caring of an adult wild animal is beyond your limitation, many of you might choose to release the creature back into the wild. This will put them in a pathetic situation as they don’t know how to survive in the wild from predators.
But again if you are planning to bring them back to home, the pet is subjected to a life of captivity.
In short
You can show your love for animals by supporting a sanctuary or wildlife rescue organization. You can do it by donations or giving hands-on volunteering. But domesticating a wild animal is risky as well as cruel. You won’t be able to provide everything they need.
However, Dogs and cats have been bred as pets for thousands of years. And you can be a good caretaker with the help of Mister pet.
